Joaquim's wife, Dulce, a seamstress, takes care of him, but sometimes, he can't remember who she is.

"Currently more than 55 million people live with dementia worldwide, and there are nearly 10 million new cases every year"  - World Health Organization (WHO)

Fading Moments is an ongoing project that tells the quiet, tender story of Joaquim and his wife, Dulce, as they navigate the heartbreaking effects of memory loss. Dulce, a seamstress, cares for Joaquim with love and devotion, yet there are days when Joaquim can no longer recognise the woman who has shared his life for so many years.

Through intimate portraits, this series captures Dulce’s strength and vulnerability as she navigates the routines of caregiving alongside the silent grief of watching her husband slip further into the fog of his own mind. The photographs reveal the small, everyday gestures that define their relationship—Dulce sewing in the afternoon light, Joaquim gazing, and the fleeting moments when their hands still find each other, despite the erosion of his memories. It serves as a visual tribute to Dulce's quiet resilience and the bittersweet beauty of a love tested by time and memory.
